BLEPHARITIS

 

What is it?

This is an inflammation/infection of the eyelids and eyelash follicles, causing redness, itchiness and scaling of the lid margins.

What causes it?

It is frequently associated with a fungal dermatitis of the eyebrows and scalp (dandruff).Sometimes it may be a form of eczema or dermatitis.

If blepharitis becomes chronic it can lead to loss or ingrown of the eyelashes, and secondary bacterial infection may occur.

 

Treatment & General Recommendations:

  • Treat any scalp dandruff.

  • Bathe the eyes with a sea salt solution to remove any scales from the lashes.

  • Remove any ingrown eyelashes.
